About the Sanford Middle School Band Program

The Sanford Middle School Band develops confident, responsible students through the power of music.
In our program, students learn teamwork, leadership, and perseverance while building friendships and pushing themselves to grow. Band is a place where students discover their potential and become part of something bigger than themselves.

Growing musicians. Building leaders. Creating community.

  • Many instruments can be rented from local music stores, and the school has some instruments available for students when needed.

  • Yes. Most students rent instruments through local music stores at affordable monthly rates. Our program also works to keep costs low through fundraising and community support. If cost is ever a concern, please contact the band director—we want every student to have the opportunity to participate.

No student will be turned away from band due to financial concerns.

  • Yes. Many Sanford Middle School band students are involved in a variety of other school activities. Our program includes students who participate in athletics, robotics, yearbook, and other organizations throughout the school.

Band helps students develop time management, responsibility, and teamwork that support success in any activity they choose to pursue.

Students in band regularly balance participation in sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, track, baseball, and softball while continuing to grow as musicians.

Band is designed to complement a student’s overall school experience, and we encourage students to explore multiple interests while being part of the program.

Why Join Band

Band is more than learning an instrument. It is a place where students grow as musicians, teammates, and leaders.

Students in band learn responsibility by caring for an instrument of value and preparing music as part of a group. They learn how to work as a team, support one another, and push themselves to improve every day.

Band gives students an outlet to express themselves creatively while also applying skills they learn in core classes such as math, reading, and problem-solving.

Students develop confidence as they perform, overcome challenges, and learn that mistakes are a natural part of growth. We emphasize a growth mindset, encouraging students to be reflective, resilient, and proud of their progress.

Band students are involved all across our school. Many participate in athletics, robotics, yearbook, and other activities while continuing to thrive in band. They learn how to balance commitments and be part of something larger than themselves.

Most importantly, band provides a safe and welcoming environment where students can make friends, build confidence, and feel excited to come to school every day.

Through music, we help students become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to succeed in school, in their future careers, and in life.
